Some of his work is hideously aggressive and unsettling, but mostly beautifully, and totally compelling - in my humble opinion.

Francis Bacon and the Masters the current exhibition at SCVA
brings together over 100 major works by Francis Bacon with old and
modern masters including Velázquez, Rembrandt,
Titian, Michelangelo, Rodin, Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse.
The exhibition explores Bacon's obsession with the art of the past,
examining how he consistently drew on the work of masters such as
Michelangelo, Velázquez and Degas, as well as to the stylized forms of
ancient Greek and Roman works.
As the Sainsbury’s director, Paul Greenhalgh, told journalists last
week: “It doesn’t matter what you think of Francis Bacon, the show is
crammed with masterworks.”
